Publishing Hushly Activities to Marketo

Modified on Fri, 11 Jul at 3:01 AM

Hushly enables seamless integration with Marketo by automatically publishing visitor engagement activities captured on your Hushly Experiences, SNLPs, Smart Microforms, and ABM Pages.

Available Activities for Publishing to Marketo

Hushly supports publishing the following activities to Marketo:

Content View - Triggered when a visitor views content within Hushly modules like Experiences, Hubs (Smart NLP Pages), or ABM Pages.

Form Submit - Triggered when a visitor submits a Hushly form to access gated content on Experiences, SNLPs, or ABM Pages.

Content Download - Triggered when a visitor clicks the download link from the email received after form submission.

How to Enable Activity Publishing

To publish Hushly Activities to Marketo, follow the steps below:

  1. From the Left Nav Menu, click Setup > Integrations.
  2. The Integrations listing page displays all available integrations. Click Edit next to the Marketo integration to modify its settings.

  3. The Integration setup page is displayed. Click Settings.

  4. The Marketo Integration Settings pop-up opens, displaying the Content View, Form Submit, and Content Download toggles disabled by default.

  5. Toggle Content View, Form Submit, and/or Content Download to Yes based on the activities you want to publish and click Save.

  6. A success message is displayed.

Activity Publishing Behavior

Known Person in Marketo:

If the visitor is already known in Marketo (identified via a valid Marketo cookie), all tracked activities are immediately published to Marketo. This includes content views, form submissions, and content downloads. These activities appear in real time in the lead’s Activity Log, ensuring your Marketo instance has up-to-date engagement data for existing leads.

Anonymous Person

If the visitor is anonymous (not identified in Marketo), the activities are queued temporarily. These include views and other interactions before the visitor is identified. Once the visitor submits a Hushly form and downloads the content actions that typically identify the lead, the queued activities are then published to Marketo and associated with the newly identified lead record. This ensures no meaningful engagement is lost, even if the visitor was initially anonymous.

API usage:

The activity publishing feature uses Marketo API calls, with 2 API calls consumed per activity published. Since Marketo enforces a daily limit of 50,000 API calls, it's important to consider your expected traffic and engagement volume.

We recommend enabling only the activity types that are most relevant to your use case - Content View, Form Submit, and Content Download to optimize API usage and stay within your daily quota.

Recommendation

To ensure that visitor interactions on your Hushly Hubs are accurately tracked in Marketo, it is recommended to add the Marketo Munchkin tracking code to each Hub. This can be done by navigating to the Hub, selecting the Custom Code section, and inserting the Munchkin tag into the Header as appropriate.

Implementing the Munchkin tag is especially important if you want to take full advantage of Marketo’s behavioral tracking, lead scoring, and engagement insights for your Hushly Hubs.
