Adding a Click Trigger (Conversion) to a Web Experience

Modified on Tue, 19 Nov at 10:29 PM

A Click Trigger is an event that monitors clicks on specific elements within a webpage, tracking user interactions, such as button and link clicks. These clicks are recorded as Conversions in Reports and in Web Experiences > Metrics.

Click Conversions can be added in two locations.

  • Web Experiences > Variations > Editor Panel
  • Web Experiences > Conversions.

To add a Conversion through Web Experiences > Variations > Editor Panel, follow the below steps.

  • From the Left Nav menu, click Web Personalization > Web Experiences.
  • On the Web Experiences listing page, select a Web Experience.
  • Under the Variations tab, select a Variation.
  • The Variation page is displayed with the Preview Panel and Personalized Panel on the left Nav.
  •  Select a button or a link in the Preview Panel. The Editor Panel will open, displaying the Track as Conversion section. Click on Track as Conversion to expand the section. The Create Conversion button is displayed. Click Create Conversion.
  • The Add Click Conversion pop-up displays the following fields, Name, Description, URL of the Page, and the CSS Selector of the Element that needs to be tracked. Enter the values and click Save. Note:  The URL of the Page and the CSS Selector of the Element are pre-populated with their respective values.

  • The Conversion is saved displaying the Name of the Conversion with the Edit and Delete Icons. Note: Even if the variation is in a published state, you can create a Click Conversion without needing to republish the variation for the conversion to appear in real-time reports.
    • Click the Edit Icon to modify the Conversion. The Edit Click Conversion pop-up appears, allowing you to modify the Name and Description fields. However, the  URL and the CSS selector cannot be modified.
    • Click the Delete Icon. A Confirmation message is displayed with No and Yes. Click Yes. The Conversion is deleted with a confirmation message.
  • The saved Click Conversion is displayed on the Web Experiences > Conversions Page.
  • In runtime when users interact with a button or a link that has a Click Conversation configured, these clicks are recorded as Conversions in Reports and in Web Experiences > Metrics.

    • Conversions displayed in Web Experiences > Metrics.
    • Conversions are displayed in Reports >  Web Experience.

To add a Conversion through Web Experiences > Conversions, follow these steps.

  • From the Left Nav menu, lick Web Personalization > Web Experiences.

  • On the Web Experiences listing page, select a Web Experience.

  • On the Web Experience Details page, under the Conversions tab, click New Conversion.
  • From the Add Conversion pop-up window, select Click.
  • Enter the NameDescriptionURL, and CSS Selector of the element to be tracked. Click Save.

Note: If you want to track a button or link existing on various pages on your website, you can add multiple URLs. For example, if the Demo button exists on various pages, you can add multiple URLs for the same CSS selector.

If you have multiple buttons or links on the same page that need to be tracked, you can configure multiple CSS selectors for a single URL. For instance, if there are several "Demo" buttons on the same page, you can enter separate CSS selectors to track each of them.

  •  The Conversion is saved and displayed in the Conversion Details Page.
Note: The CSS Selectors configured here for tracking purposes will be recorded in the Web Experiences > Metrics,   and in Reports > Web Experiences.
