Adding a Variable

To add a variable:

  1. From the Left Nav Menu, click Setup > Variables.

  2. On the Variables page, click Add.

  3. In the Create Variable pop-up window, enter the Name of the variable.
  4. Select String for accepting text input or Number to accept numeric input into the field from the Data Type drop-down list.

  5. Select the source type from the Source Type drop-down list.

  6. Click the Source Type drop-down list and select the source type. All parameters listed below help you track the performance of the Experience or Hub they are associated with.
    • Cookie: Select a cookie as source type to track a user session, or store anything that should be remembered about the user, such as user preferences and shopping card details.
    • Hidden Field: Use hidden fields to submit data that is not entered by the user but is relevant to managing the user.
    • Java Script Variable: Define a JavaScript variable to make it a part of your page source.
    • JavaScript Function: Define a JavaScript function that performs tasks or calculations that derive a value.
    • URL Parameter: Use the URL parameter to pass session data to the Hushly server to manage the user.

      Important: You can define the value of the variable using the Who tab of an Experience or Hubs > Recommendation Rules.

  7.  Enter the variable name.

  8. Click Create.

  9. The created Variable field is displayed in the list of variables on the Setup > Variables page.
